Additional Information
City Psychologist is not an emergency service, and Vernon Stokoe is not a crisis therapist. City Psychologist does not operate as a 24-hour service.
In the event of an emergency—if you feel you are in danger or that others may be at risk—the appropriate action is to call 999. If you need support outside of therapy hours, Samaritans offers a confidential listening service and can be reached at 116 123.
Vernon works with clients on a case-by-case basis. If he feels he is not the most suitable therapist for your needs, he will discuss this with you.
What you share in therapy is confidential, except in situations where there is a legal duty to act. For instance, If there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, your therapist may be required to inform the relevant authorities.
Additionally, as part of professional standards, therapists engage in supervision to ensure the quality of their work. While aspects of your sessions may be discussed in this setting, your identity and any personally identifying details will remain protected.
Dark Academia Ltd (trading as City Psychologist) retains client records for 10 years as required by professional guidelines. These records may be stored securely as a hard copy or on a secure system, in line with data protection regulations.
All personal information is handled confidentially and will not be shared with any third party, except where legally required.
Clients have the right to request a copy of their records while they are retained. A fee of £20.00 per page applies for this service.
Dark Academia Ltd follows the ethical principles and professional guidelines set by the British Psychological Society (BPS), ensuring that all records and client interactions are managed to the highest professional standards. More details on their practice guidelines can be found here: BPS Practice Guidelines (2017)
If you have any concerns about your therapy, the first step is to communicate them directly with your therapist in writing, either by email or letter. This allows them to address your concerns and, where possible, work towards a resolution.
If, after this, you feel the issue remains unresolved, you can escalate your complaint by contacting the therapist’s registered governing body and following their official complaints procedure.
